Pondicherry University (PU) intends to provide a Covid-19 treatment center on its campus. The university will have facilities for the establishment of the Covid-19 treatment center. PU is a collegiate public central university in Kalapet, Pondicherry, Union Territory of Puducherry, India.

The decision to establish the center on the Pondicherry University campus was taken as a special arrangement to provide facilities to Covid-affected patients within the university and its nearby villages, according to an official statement.

The facilities will be built with the permission of the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and the Chief Rector of Pondicherry University. Professor Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University, has given in principle approval for the establishment of a Covid Care Centre at Pondicherry University, according to a statement published in this regard recently.

In the same declaration, the university also stated that it has concentrated on allocating an appropriate number of beds and specialized wards to Pondicherry University teachers, employees, and students on a high priority for care whenever necessary.

PU was created by The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, by an Act of Parliament in 1985. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has given the University a ‘A’ rating.
