Be Pretty : Shortest Movie ever

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences states that a short film is “an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits”. This is the general definition of a short film. But, have you wondered about the shortest film ever made? Have you thought of a movie that has only a few seconds as a duration? Yes, movies are there.

Soldier Boy(2005) is the shortest feature film that has been made at that time. This movie is directed by Les Sholes and produced under the banner of Fat Cat productions. The film was made to use this video as a promotional tool by a corporate company. Being the shortest movie ever produced, with seven seconds duration, this movie has featured in the Guinness Book of World Records. The writer and director, Les Sholes, state that it is a long process and many technicians were involved in this movie, even though it was a seven-second movie.

After this World Record, here comes an Indian who has directed a movie “Be Pretty”. Anbu Rajasekar, from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu has created a movie with five seconds as a running duration. This attempt by Anbu Rajasekar creates a world record that this is the world’s shortest film ever produced. The record by Les Sholes for Soldier Boy(2005) was broken by Anbu Rajasekar and set a new record.

Anbu Rajasekar lives in Ilangaadu near Thirukattupalli, Thanjavur. He’s been working as a director in the capital of Tamil Nadu – Chennai.  The shortest movie “Be Pretty” is an awareness movie that revolves around the awareness of wearing masks. He states that being a creator of art, he must join hands with society to create awareness. This intention made him develop an idea for creating the shortest movie with the awareness of wearing masks as a plot.

The movie poster was released by Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. And, Anbu Rajasekar has requested the honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr M.K. Stalin to release the movie.
