The subscription based streaming service Netflix, has developed and launched an online store with Shopify to sell merchandise of the most popular shows on the Over the top platform.
The Netflix e-commerce store is going to sell limited edition Merchandise, collectables, and apparels of some of the most popular shows on Netflix like Stranger Things, Lupin, The Witcher and more. The online store announced last week that it has already launched in the United States and it is going to be available in other countries as well.
According to Variety the store will sell exclusive, limited editions of “carefully selected, high-quality apparel and lifestyle products” tied to Netflix’s shows and brand on a regular basis. Prior to the launch of this store, products and merchandise of Netflix were being sold through other retail partners like Walmart, H&M, Sephora and Target. The store will be only accessible through Netflix.shop for fans to buy products from their favourite shows.
According to Netflix, the items debuting this month will be “streetwear and action figures based on anime series Yasuke and Eden”. Additionally the store is also going to sell limited edition apparel and decorative items from the popular French thriller series Lupin in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre. Anime inspired collectables from up and coming designers like Nathalie Nguyen, Kristopher Kites and Jordan Bentley, is also going to be available in the debut of the online store.
Exclusive products from The Witcher and Stranger Things are also going to be introduced by Netflix in its store. As Netflix says it will be updating the product lines on a regular basis, there is also going to be new Netflix logo wear from Japanese fashion house BEAMS. The online streaming service has also launched some video games based on shows like “Stranger Things” and “La casa de Papel (Money Heist).
“The website is an exciting new destination combining curated products and rich storytelling in a uniquely Netflix shopping experience.” says Josh Simon, Netflix’s VP of consumer products.
Netflix’s own attempt to enter the merchandising space will prove to be an edge over other OTT platforms with the increasing competitive space of the OTT services. Netflix’s shares also rose by 0.4 percent to $487.72 (roughly Rs 35,700) on Saturday on Nasdaq upon announcement of the store launch.
