Ettapur police were engaged in a search at a forest check post in the Pappanayakkanpatti area near Vazhapadi in Salem district. Murugesan (45), a farmer living in the Edappadi Puthur area at that time, had gone to Karumanthurai in a two-wheeler with his friends and was returning home when he was stopped by the police.
He said that the two were involved in a dispute and that he was hit by Special Assistant Inspector Periyasamy of the Ettapur police station.
He was immediately taken to 108 Primary Health Center and given first aid and then taken to Attur Government Hospital for treatment. He was later rushed to Salem Government Hospital for further treatment and succumbed to his injuries at 5 am while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
Shiva Babu, Jayasankar, accompanied Murugesan on a two-wheeler. Murugesan’s wife Annakkili (35), two daughters Jayapriya (18) and Jayaprada (17), and a son Kavipriyan (13).
Salem District SP Abhinav is interrogating them with three children at the Ettapur police station. There are more than 100 relatives and the police have been accumulated there.
Last year the same incident happened to the businessman of Sathankulam Jayaraj and Bennics. As both died under police custody, the case was handled by CBI. Following the same, this year police again killed a farmer by attaching him with the latti.
