Stefan Klein, the founder and CEO of R&D firm Klein Vision, which built the prototype hybrid car-plane, piloted the historic flight.
AirCar’s first inter-city flight took off from Slovakia’s Nitra international airport. Klein took off from the airstrip and flew to Bratislava in 35 minutes. He landed at the city airport and drove the AirCar the three minutes to the city centre.
Klein put forth 20 years of effort to create the AirCar prototype. Over 140 test flights have been conducted with the AirCar. The inter-city flight this week was the “biggest ambitious endeavour” to yet.

By pressing a single button, the AirCar may transform into an aeroplane. It changes the aerodynamics of the aircraft by deploying wings and a tail. It takes only 135 seconds to complete the task.
AirCar, which is powered by a BMW petrol engine and features a fixed-propeller system, can reach a maximum cruising speed of 190 kilometres per hour and has flown up to 8,200 feet.
Klein wants to increase the peak speed to 300 km/h and the range to 1,000 kilometres on a single tank of petrol.

Klein said in a statement, “This flight starts a new era of dual-transportation vehicles. It opens a new category of transportation and returns the freedom originally attributed to cars back to the individual.”
