Vishwanath Anand tagged as the Indian chess grandmaster and former world chess champion will be seen battling chess against the prominent Bollywood celebrities, eminent entrepreneurs or businessman personalities. The exhibition is set to raise funds for The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s COVID -19 relief as a form of succour for the needy and the sufferers of the pandemic prevailed.
‘A Simultaneous Exhibition’ is organised by Chess.com to raise funds for the Akshaya Patra Foundation’s COVID-19 relief. Vishwanath Anand will play against the celebrities from the film industry across the country and few business mens are also included in the list.
The game is believed to be battled against the players at one go in one hour simul games. There will be around 10 indian celebrities and 5 businessmen. The event is set to be held on 13th june, 2021 at 5:00pm and the event will live streamed in their official youtube channel, “Chesscom India”.
The Bollywood celebrities include Aamir Khan, Kiccha Sudeep, Arijit singh, Ritesh Deshmukh, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, song-writer and singer Ananya Birla, Sajid Nadiawala. Besides the bollywood stars, business leaders include MD of Xiaomi India, C0-founder of Zerodha – Mr.Nikhil Kamath, Prachura Padakannaya and others. Several other Bollywood stars have supported the event either through their Twitter accounts or through the Chesscom official social sites.
The funds raised by the event will be used for helping the deprived in the pandemic and also for the destitute families of the chess committee. Padakannaya told, “Despite being at the forefront in the International chess circuit, India has not received the recognition and prominence it deserves. Events like Checkmate COVID can draw the attention of the public and celebrities to the chess fraternity and thereby support social causes.”
On the other hand, the CEO of Akshaya Patra, Mr. Sridhar Venkat said, “Both sports and business fraternities have always stepped up to help the people of this country whenever they needed. It is heartening to see the stalwarts from both fields once again come together for a cause.”
He later thanked Vishwanath Anand and all the celebrities and businessleaders for supporting Akshaya Patra’s COVID-19 relief feeding efforts. He especially thanked Chess.com for conducting the event.
According to reports, The Akshaya Patra Foundation has fed over 128 million meals to helpless people, denied food and the sufferers of the lockdown measures imposed to curb the viral outbreak. The food has been served across 19 states and one union territory since March 2020.
