After defeating Australia in today’s quarter-finals and achieving a historic victory in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, the Indian national women’s ice hockey team entered the semi-finals. India scored the winning goal after Gurjit Kaur scored a penalty corner in the 22nd minute of the match.
India showed a perfect combination of aggressiveness and strategy throughout the match. They seem to be in charge. Savita Punia led’s defence is good at resisting the Australian offence. Especially in the fourth quarter, Emily Chalker’s side desperately needed a way to equalize.
Kaul’s name will appear on the log, but Punia’s performance in the game is equal. Their excellent saves are essential to stop the Australians from making them. When the Australian got a penalty in the last few minutes, Punia came back to make a clearance. Sprinting enables defenders to quickly get rid of traffic jams.

Due to fouls, India was down to 10 players at least twice in the game, but still reserved a seat in the semi-finals.
Despite India’s overall performance in the Olympics so far, it has been a brilliant week for the country’s hockey players. Both men and women hockey teams entered the semi-finals of the same Olympics Games for the first time.
