Mary Kom did not emulate her success within the finals after losing the summit clash and having to accept the silver . The star Indian pugilist lost to Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay by a decision within the 51kg category at the Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai on Sunday.

This was her second silver at the Asian Boxing Championships. She also has five gold medals from previous editions.At the top of three rounds, the bout visited Kazakh opponent’s favour, who is 11 years younger than the Indian legend. Mary Kom will bring home the silver from the crucial meet leading up to the Tokyo Olympics.

Earlier, Mary had defeated Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia 4-1 within the semi-final.Other than the legendary Indian boxer, three other Indians even have trophy bouts on Sunday:Pooja Rani (75kg), Anupama (+81kg) and Lalbuatsahi (64kg).

The bout went 3-2 within the Kazakh opponent’s favour, who is 11 years younger than the 38-year-old Indian legend. Mary Kom will bring home the silver from the crucial meet leading up to the Tokyo Olympics.

The intensity picked up within the second round and both the boxers showed aggressive intent. The Kazakh drew level at now together with her jabs landing perfectly. Mary Kom fought back within the final three minutes but that wasn’t enough to urge the judges’ nod. The Manipuri legend also won a prize of USD 5,000 for her campaign, while Kyzaibay was richer by USD 10,000.
