Mirabai Chanu, an Indian weightlifter, has won the country’s first medal in the current Tokyo Olympics. In the Women’s Weightlifting event, she earned a silver medal in the 49kg division. She became the first Indian weightlifter to compete in the Olympics and earn a silver medal.

Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg throughout her four successful tries across the tournament (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk).

Mirabai Chanu Winning Message

Chanu had previously won the gold medal in the 48 kg division at the World Championships in Anaheim. In the 48kg division, she is the defending Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

Following her victory in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, offered her heartfelt congratulations through Twitter.
