Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomes their second child

Archie is now a full-fledged big brother! On Sunday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed a new family member as they released an official statement announcing the birth of their newborn daughter.

The spokesperson’s statement read “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA,”

Both the mother and the newborn are believed to be in good health following childbirth. However, no image of the newborn was provided. Lilibet, her first name, is a play on Her Majesty The Queen’s nickname. Her middle name is an homage to her grandma, Princess Diana who also happens to be Harry’s mother. She is the eighth in line to the throne of Britain.

According to a statement published by Buckingham Palace, the royals, including Harry’s father Prince Charles and brother Prince William, were pleased to learn of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby girl’s birth in Los Angeles on Friday.

Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, extended good wishes to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter on Twitter, tweeting, “Many congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter.”

After stepping down from royal responsibilities and relocating to the United States to live more independently, the couple has had a tumultuous year. As a result, their second child’s arrival is unquestionably a blessing in disguise.
