Pulitzer Prizes in Journalism was announced on Friday. This award is considered one of the greatest awards in the world. Darnella Frazier, a teen who is acclaimed to fame for recording the cruelty of police officer Derek Chauvin towards the black man George Floyd.
2021 Pulitzer Prizes Special Citation was awarded to Darnella Frazier, who recorded the world-famous video of Floyd’s murder by Minneapolis. The award was accompanied by $15,000.
Pulitzer Prize Board stated that the special mention award to Darnella “for courageously recording the murder of George Floyd, a video that spurred protests against police brutality around the world, highlighting the crucial role of citizens in journalists’ quest for truth and justice,”.
Her video which went viral on social media has sprouted protests all over the world for the cruelty that is continuing on black people. The Minneapolis officer Derek was arrested for this crime on the basis of this video. This video had played a vital role from the beginning of the case to the closing of the case.
On the murder day, Darnella, along with her cousin was walking through the street of Minneapolis Sidewalk for visiting a store. Suddenly, she witnessed the cruelty of Floyd being murdered by Derek. Derek has kneeled in Floyd’s neck. This significant video evidence has raised a voice against the cruelty of police officers.
This also gained support for equality for black people too. Black Lives Matter protests were the important outcome that this video evidence has brought in the last year. This award was honored to a young girl who created a mass revolution for the black with no power.
